On the traces of the Roman Aqueduct of Herodes Atticus from Montemilone to Canosa

This itinerary follows the ideal line of the Roman aqueduct from the Gloriosa of Montemilone, near the sanctuary of the Madonna del Bosco, to the center of Canosa where it fed the city spas, among other things.

It was built in the 2nd century by Herodes Atticus, a Roman citizen of Athenian origin. Due to their constructive characteristic, the Roman aqueducts were free-surface ducts in which the water traveled, with a constant slope, thanks to the effect of gravity alone, modeling their path according to the shape of the territory.
